In a controversial auction in New York, a black leather jacket belonging to Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, was sold for an astonishing $960,000. This event took place on Friday, and the Sotheby's auction house initially estimated the value of the outfit at only $60,000.
Iconic Outfit of the Artificial Intelligence Era
This leather jacket, designed by Tom Ford, is specifically associated with one of the central figures of the artificial intelligence era. Brahm Wachter, a representative of the auction house, described the outfit as a valuable item, stating, "This leather jacket is deeply intertwined with one of the most influential figures in modern technology."
In this auction, 45 different collectors competed to purchase the outfit, and ultimately the price approached one million dollars. Given that Huang wears this outfit at most of his public events, it has become a symbol for him. Remember that Huang also appeared on the cover of Time Magazine in 2021 while wearing this outfit.
The proceeds from this auction will go to the non-profit organization Edge Institute, which helps teach English and familiarize professionals with Western business and educational methods. While Huang has chosen his unique outfits as his personal signature, he can be likened to Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg, each of whom has their own fashion symbols.
